MEMPHIS, Tenn. -

On February 12, 2014, at 12:38 p.m., the Memphis Police Department has canceled the Inclement Weather Policy that was enforced on 2/12/2014 at 0745am.

All motorists are still encouraged to use caution when traveling the roadways, especially bridges, overpasses, and underpasses as they tend to hold ice for longer periods of time.

Motorists are reminded State law requires motorists in most vehicle crashes to safely remove their vehicles to the shoulder of the road to avoid creating further hazards and to reduce traffic congestion.

Exceptions to the removal requirement include:

  • If the driver is prevented from moving the vehicle because he or she was injured in the crash,
  • If the crash resulted in serious injury or death of any person,
  • If one party is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or
  • If the vehicle was disabled by the crash.

If a motorist was involved in a vehicle crash while the Inclement Weather Policy was in effect, motorist should report to one of the nearest Police Stations within 10 working days and bring with them the following:

  • Your vehicle
  • Vehicle Registration
  • Proof of Insurance

If you have any questions about which precinct you live closest to, you are encouraged to visit the Memphis Police Website at www.memphispolice.org under the Precinct tab or use website http://mdsas.memphispolice.org/wardfinder/
