MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Nearly four weeks after a bold jewelry heist at Reeds Jewelers in the Wolfchase Galleria, Memphis Police say their detectives have arrested three men and are searching for three others, including a person of interest.

Chadwick Bailey, Andrew Penrice, and Dalton Francis were arrested in Houston, Texas, and are awaiting extradition back to Memphis to face charges of aggravated robbery, theft, and vandalism.

Two other men are still on the run. Rodrick Walker is believed to be in the Houston area and police believe Maurice Williams is in California.

Police say they have a sixth person of interest they're investigating. None of the suspects in the jewelry heist are from Memphis, Memphis Police commanders and lawyers from the Shelby County District Attorney General's office said during a news conference Tuesday morning.

"Evidence was obtained from the scene that led investigators to believe the suspect responsible were not local residents," said Memphis Police Deputy Director Anthony Berryhill.

The investigation took MPD Organized Crime detectives to Texas to make the bust.  These detectives didn't have much to work with, but there was a key piece of evidence, a cellphone left at the scene of the crime.

More than $500,000 worth of watches were stolen Jan. 18 during the chaos inside the mall. Wolfchase Galleria went into lockdown on a busy Saturday night. Shoppers were panicked and fled the mall after mistaking the sound of sledgehammers on a glass case for gunfire.

Cellphone video obtained by FOX13 News Jan. 18 showed the chaos in Wolfchase Galleria three weeks ago and men dressed in black running out of the mall. Six men smashed the cases in Reeds Jewelers, grabbed $537,000 worth of Rolex watches and took off.

"They had not a whole lot to work on and they just kept digging and kept digging until we got positive results," Deputy Director Berryhill said.

Law enforcement sources say the men were indicted by a Shelby County grand jury. Officials would not comment on that at Tuesday's news conference.

"There's charging documents that have been filed and they're, you know, certified and on their way to Houston if they're not already there," said assistant district attorney Paul Hagerman.

The men are also being investigated for similar crimes in other cities. A Houston Police Department spokesperson said their department is looking into whether the three suspects were behind smash and grab robberies there.

In the meantime prosecutors are working to get Bailey, Penrice, and Francis extradited back to Memphis.

"Hopefully we'll have these suspects back here in Memphis sooner rather than later, but I don't have an exact timetable right now," Hagerman said.

This is very much an on-going investigation. There are warrants out for Walker and Williams and police are still looking into that unnamed person of interest.

Prosecutors say if convicted the accused robbers could face more than 50 years in prison.
