Residents Without Power Are Demanding Answers

Posted: Updated:

Fed up residents in Abington Township are taking their frustrations to PECO's.

That's one of the places where the power company opened a customer care center to answer questions about the massive outage.

It's been four days and counting for many residents there and they're fired up about their lack of results.

"There's not enough guys working to fix this problem, it needs to be fixed. It's unconscionable, it's like we live in a third world country," Bruce Murray said.

Downed wires and downed trees, means downed hopes of getting power restored.

"It's gone down to about 45 degrees in my house, my wife has pneumonia and we were initially told power would be back online by Thursday night at 11, then it became Friday night at 11, now I'm being told it could be as late as Monday or Tuesday," Dan Schenk said.

There is still plenty of storm damage across the area, leaving hundreds of thousands in the dark.

Those lucky enough to have generators said they're struggling to get by.

"The dishwasher doesn't work right now, the hot water doesn't work, so to do the dishes we heat the water (on the stove) and do the dishes," Jean Lisman said.

So dozens of people attended a PECO Customer Care Center in Abington looking for answers.

Employees explained what power grids their customers' homes are on, and told them they are working diligently to fix the problem.

TJ Miller says the meeting was a waste of time.

"I have no idea where I'm at on the work order system, when it's going to be restored, where we are on the list, whether we're a priority or not a priority. I know nothing more than I did coming here 45 minutes ago," Miller said.

While thousands wait for the lights to come back on, some are doing anything they can to break up the blackout boredom.

More snow in the forecast could complicate things.

"There's a lot of cleanup to do and with the storm coming, we're not really optimistic about what it's going to look like in the next week," Kelly Gallagher said.

PECO representatives will be back here tomorrow and Monday from 8 am to 7 pm to answer questions about the outage.
