DOWNTOWN MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

From lighting up the stage at Super Bowl XLVIII in New Jersey to headlining his own show back home, it's been quite a week for Memphis native Kameron Whalum, who plays trombone for Bruno Mars.

Whalum headlined a show Friday evening at the Hard Rock Cafe on Beale Street. It was a perfect way to end a memorable week.

"It's great, it's a great feeling to be able to come home where I was born and raised and perform on Beale Street," Whalum said. "It's real good."

Fresh off his Super Bowl performance, Whalum said he's proud to be headlining his first solo show back home.

"People know me here," Whalum said. "In the Super Bowl and most crowds, they don't know who I am. They just know me from that. But here, people know me. They've known me since I was a kid and they've seen me grow up, so that's the main difference."

After performing in front of millions, even he still admits to having some pre-show jitters.

"To be honest, this show (Friday night) is more intimidating than all those shows," Whalum said. "I've performed in front of millions, thousands of people, but this show (Friday) in front of a couple hundred is more. I don't want to say I'm nervous, but I'm excited, eager."

But like any performer, the show must go on. Whalum is hoping to make his hometown proud.

"It's a dream come true."

The hometown shows don't stop there. Whalum will be joining students at Overton High School on Tuesday, Feb. 11, for a Cool Breeze concert. He will then be back in Memphis with Bruno Mars at the FedExForum June 6.
