Montgomery County Still Dealing With Power Outages

Posted: Updated:
HORSHAM, Pa. -

In Pennsylvania, more than 5,000 repair people are on the job, working 16 hour shifts. FOX 29's Jennifer Joyce went live in hard-hit Montgomery County last night, and FOX 29's Dawn Timmeney was there again this morning.

Here are the latest numbers: PECO says just under 300,000 customers do not have power this morning.

Most of those are in Montgomery and Chester Counties, where the number has dipped below 100,000.

PECO says most customers should have service back by tonight, but in heavy-damaged areas, power could be out through Sunday.

Dawn Timmeney was in Abington Township, where a tree is down on the power line and the mess is all on the road. About 13,000/22,000 are still without power.

Steve Keeley was in King of Prussia, where people were filling their tanks full of gas. Many have come back many times to get fuel for their generators. What is a usually popular shopping town has now become a pit stop for people without power.

As fast as they come in, they go out. Bill Brennan of Jenkintown thought buying a generator would be a quick fix to help his 4 children cope on day 2 of a power outage--but -- quickly he realized he was still out of luck.

"They have generators but don't have the gas cans. By the time I get the gas cans I won't need the generator," Brennan said.

So it's back to huddling by the fireplace in winter coats and sweatshirts...playing games and trying to keep the peace between stir-crazy siblings.

"We're all just cold and mad at each other." Regina Brennan said.

This family like many others is frustrated but more so cold.

And even a bit nervous, a few of the iced-over tree limbs have already snapped off and crashed down onto the house. Fortunately no one got hurt.

"I just heard a giant crash thought it was dad's dresser falling a giant branch fell onto the room dad told Me to go to the basement and be safe," Michael Brennan said.

"We heard all kinds of branches falling our neighbors deck fell," Suzanne Brennan said.

While these fireside family chats sans cell phones and electronics are nice...this entire family is ready to be powered back on.

"Mike asked me would you rather have no power and no school or school and power I said I'd rather have school and power because I don't want to be stuck at school freezing with no power, nothing," Frank said.

The crews on the ground are 30% more than when Sandy hit, so the extra personnel will hopefully make the recovery efforts go as quickly as possible.
