Cigarette thief stealing only Marlboro Reds and Newports strikes again

Just hours after a cigarette thief strikes at a Detroit donut shop he struck again at a Madison Heights 7-Eleven with another male suspect, once again only targeting Marboro and Newport brands.

The two suspects entered the convenience store shortly after 4 a.m. on Wednesday. Both were wearing hoodies and one also was wearing a ski mask.

The cashier asked the man to remove his mask, then went to help the men in the deli area. When the clerk was walking back to the register he was tackled by one of the suspects and held down while the second suspect gathered cartons of cigarettes.

"It's a smash and grab that's been escalated and more brazen. Now, it's turned into an armed robbery when they held a subject down they threatened to shoot him if he got up," says Lt. Robert Anderson from the Madison Heights Police Department.

Even though the clerk never saw a guy, the two suspects could face armed robbery charges.

"Anytime you have a robbery with this force and this nature, where somebody is taken to the ground like they are and their life is threatened, we take it very seriously," Anderson says.

SUSPECT 1 DESCRIPTION

Black male
Between 6 feet 2 inches and 6 feet 6 inches tall
Heavy set frame, weighing between 275 - 300 pounds
Scraggly beard
Last seen wearing a black tank top, red shorts, white/black tennis shoes and a gray hoodie with a red horizontal stripped logo on the front

SUSPECT 2 DESCRIPTION

Light-skinned black male
Between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall
Weighing about 150 pounds
Last seen wearing a black nylon jacket with hood, light blue jeans and black/white tennis shoes.

Police say suspect two is also responsible for the breaking and enterings at Detroit Donuts, as he wore the same clothing in all three incidents. Cigarettes were stolen from Detroit Donut first on Jan. 29 then the second time on Feb. 5, just hours before the robbery at 7-Eleven.
