PRINCETON, N.J. (AP) -- Princeton University is bringing back the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program, known as NROTC.

The university announced Thursday that a crosstown agreement between Princeton, the Navy and Rutgers University will allow students to participate in the NROTC college-option program starting in the fall of 2014.

The program gives students the opportunity to earn a commission in the United States naval service. They are also eligible to apply for two or three-year scholarships as they become available.

Applications for four-year NROTC scholarships are due Feb. 15 for high school students who have applied to Princeton for the fall of 2014.

Princeton has Army and Air Force ROTC programs.

It previously had an NROTC program from 1945 to 1971.

A 16-foot-long exotic snake reportedly slithering around New Jersey's largest lake is apparently a suburban legend. Or the snake just isn't hungry. The state has stopped looking for the reptile after scientists failed to find any evidence of it in Lake Hopatcong and traps baited with chicken were left untouched. Three unconfirmed sightings this month of a snake, perhaps an anaconda as long as 16 feet, raised concerns among visitors and swimmers.
