Manassas HS receives award from State Farm, Steve Harvey Show

Posted: Updated:

Representatives from The Steve Harvey Show and State Farm will present a $7500 check to Manassas High School, who won second place in the "Get Your School to a Better State" contest, sponsored by State Farm and the Steve Harvey Show. Manassas' football coach, Carl Coleman, nominated Manassas for the contest so the school could have additional support for its innovative programs, which have increased the graduation rate to 100 percent within three years.

In his nomination, Coleman stated, "Principal James R. Griffin, school leader since 2010, has devoted his time to not only increasing academic achievement, but also creating a culture where students recognize the limitless possibilities available to them when they make the pursuit of education a lifelong goal. We started with the "Win with 10" campaign where students had to complete a minimum of ten college applications and followed it with, "Keeping it 100," which required every senior to be accepted to a 4-year, 2-year, technical school or into military service. We wanted to implant in our students the idea that a high school diploma is not your end goal."
