PECO: Some Won't Get Power Restored Until Sunday

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Approximately 411,000 electric customers are still waiting this Thursday afternoon for power to be restored after massive outages across the Philadelphia area.

And PECO says some of its customers won't get service restored until late in the weekend.

"We expect the majority of customers to be restored by Friday night. However, some customers will be without service through Sunday," the company tweeted Thursday morning, then reiterated around lunchtime.

At noon Thursday, PECO was reporting on its website almost 395,000 customers without power, down about 55,000 from early Thursday morning.

Most of PECO's outages are in Montgomery, Chester and and Bucks counties.

PSE&G says crews are working on about 1,654 outages, mostly in Mercer and Burlington counties. They've already restored more than 100,000 customers' electricity since yesterday, they say.

PPL says 13,541 customers are without power. Most of those are in Lancaster County.

In New Jersey, JCP&L is down to 86 without service, while AC Electric has just about everyone restored.

Delmarva is reporting about 488 out of service, mostly in New Castle County.

PECO says its crews and others assisting them are working around the clock to restore power to affected areas.

"PECO workers have been joined by utilities from Arkansas, Canada, Illinois, Massachusetts, NY & Ohio & PECO's sister utility ComEd," the utility says.

The utility also said outages from this storm are some of the worst in company history, second only to the outages during Hurricane Sandy.

PECO spokesman Ben Armstrong told FOX 29 News on Thursday morning that in some areas crews are dealing with multiple poles down, so that whole portion of the electric distribution system has to be rebuilt.

Montco Commissioner Josh Shapiro also talked to "Good Day Philadelphia." He is one of the many in the county who have no power. He said crews are working as hard as they can to get power back as quickly as they can.

It's important to always assume that any downed wire is live and can hurt you. Stay away and call the power company if you see any power lines that have fallen. If a wire does fall on your car, make sure to stay in your car and call 911. Don't get out.
