SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. (FOX13) -

A push to keep open 13 Shelby County Schools targeted for closure continued Friday with a rally for Northside High School.

But parents and students don't plan to let their alma mater go down without a fight.

After a massive public outcry, Carver High School was taken off the list, but only after a plan was developed to make it work financially.

Northside High supporters rallied at the school. The supporters included not only the alumni base and students, but also the PTA and area clergy.

All are trying to get the message across to the school district that their school, which they consider to be a cornerstone of their community, is worth saving.

That same group will get the chance to have their voices heard by school and city officials. A public meeting is set for Monday, Feb. 3 at 5:30 p.m. at Northside High.

There is also a meeting Monday at Graves Elementary for the same reason, also at 5:30 p.m.

Public forums are set Feb. 4 for Westhaven Elementary and Feb. 6 for Lanier Middle School.
