MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

UPDATE: A convicted child rapist will not get a new trial.

Last year Jerald Jefferson was convicted of the 2002 rape of a 16-year-old girl.

The case made headlines because two years passed before the victim's rape kit was tested fro DNA.

There are over 12,000 back logged rape kits in Memphis.

Jefferson is serving a 25 year sentence.

Jerald Jefferson, convicted of rape 11 years after the crime, is headed to prison for 25 years.

In December Jefferson was convicted of raping a Frayser High School student in 2002. The then 16-year-old was abducted from Trezevant High School's campus by three men.

A rape kit was prepared but wasn't tested until two years later, when the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation received a grant to test kits in cases where there were no suspects.

The DNA evidence from the kit wasn't matched until 2010.
