Woman's Fight For Legal Pot Goes In New Direction

Posted: Updated:
COLLINGSWOOD, N.J. -

She's one of New Jersey's leading outspoken activists on legalizing marijuana. We first introduced you to Diane Fornbacher of Collingswood last summer. Her fight for legal pot is taking her in a new direction.

For the last 18 years Fornbacher has been fighting to legalize marijuana, especially in her home state of New Jersey. Come next month, she'll be leaving The Garden State; you could say for greener pastures.

Diane Fornbacher can only imagine a day when pot is legal for everyone on the streets of New Jersey, but until that day comes she's moving.

Fornbacher is trading in the quaint streets of Collingswood, New Jersey for the pot shops of Colorado where marijuana is now legal for recreational use.

"I resent having to leave. But I'm a freedom fighter and I have to do what I have to do. Especially as a mother," Fornbacher said.

The mother of two and publisher of her own online cannabis magazine suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. She doesn't qualify under New Jersey's guidelines for who is allowed to have medical marijuana.

"Access is virtually impossible there are very few people who can get medical cannabis in this state," Fornbacher said.

Fornbacher says she's already taken a job at a Denver area cannabis cultivation center helping grow pot and consult customers.

"Some people may say she wants to pick up her whole family and move to another time zone across the country so she have her pot and get high," Fornbacher said, "I am a cannabis patient who is freedom minded."

"I don't do this lightly. I don't want to leave my town. I bought a house here for a reason. I intended on staying, but the restrictions in this state is more than I can bear," she added.

Fornbacher and her family plan to move west next month. She hopes to come back to her home state some day when the laws change.

Nicholas Scutari (D-Union) announced this week plans to introduce legislation to make recreational pot legal in New Jersey. It's a plan that Governor Christie is against.
