PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

Friends and family of the man killed in a fiery crash on I-17 last week gathering Saturday morning for a carwash fundraiser. Money from the carwash going towards funeral expenses.

"He wouldn't want me to cry I'm tired of crying done crying so I'm just out here doing it for him" said Leroy Smith a friend of the victim.

With every car he washes Leroy Smith thinks of his friend Steven Daniels. All the money raised from this carwash will be used for Daniels funeral.

"He would give you the shirt off his back he was a great man close close friend just a tradgedy that he's gone" said Smith.

Daniels was killed last week in this fiery crash on I-17. Police say it all started when a truck carrying empty gas cylinders lost part of its load in the southbound lane near the Thomas exit.

An SUV stopped short to avoid the cylinders and that's when Daniels who was riding his motorcyle swereved to avoid the SUV and crashed into a gravel truck. The driver that lost those cylinders kept on driving even though police say he knew he caused the accident.

That driver Joseph Ryan O'Conner now behind bars facing charges.

Family and friends today didn't want to speak about O'Conner saying they prefer to keep the positive focus on Steven.

"I knew him for 14 years, I grew up with him he was a good close friend of mine and I know he would have done it for me so i'm out here trying to do my best to get things going for him" said Smith.

The driver of the gas cylinder truck Joseph O'Connor now faces a number of charges including negligent homicide, endangerment and failure to stay on scene of a fatal accident.
