MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Midnight is the deadline to buy U.S. Postage Stamps for 46 cents. Starting Sunday, the price to mail a 1 ounce letter will be 49 cents. This is the largest increase in over a decade for postage prices. The price to mail a postcard will increase 1 cent to a total of 34 cents.

The price increase comes in effort to keep up with inflation and make up for the United States Postal Service's annual losses. Officials say the price hike will also help the U.S. Postal Service recover from two billion fewer pieces of mail sent in 2013 than the year before. The severe decrease in mail is also attributed to more people using email, online bill pay and social media.

Forever stamps are still valid, no matter what price paid. After today All U.S. Post Offices must increase the value of Forever Stamps in inventory prior to opening for business on January 26, 2014.
