US Education Secretary Duncan to visit Hartford

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan is returning to Hartford.

He is scheduled to visit University High School of Science and Engineering for a town hall meeting on improving access to a college education. Students, college counselors and state and local leaders, including Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, Education Commissioner Stefan Pryor, Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra, and state Rep. Roberta Willis, co-chairman of the General Assembly's higher education committee.

Tuesday's meeting is expected to highlight the recent release of the 2014 Free Application for Federal Student Aid and available resources to help students access higher education.

Duncan visited Hartford last May to discuss the federal government's efforts to improve school security in the wake of the Newtown school shooting.
