PHOENIX (KSAZ) -

At 7:50 a.m. Sunday morning the first wave of runners made their way down the streets of downtown Phoenix, an exciting start to the 11th annual P.F. Chang's Rock N'Roll Marathon.

"We've got a guy he's called marathon man, he is 76 years old he's running in his 188th marathon today" said Duke Meegan.

Family, friends, and fans, snapping pictures and cheering on athletes of all ages from all over the world running for all different reasons. Like 10 year-old Jackson Moran who ran his first mini marathon in just over an hour.

"I like running and I wanted to get faster and faster" said Moran.

It's my second, the first year I did the half marathon" said Alex Bennett.

The winner of the half marathon, Rob Watson from Vancouver, Canada.

"I just wanted to try and run under 65 minutes, that was my time goal I was 65:02 so I just missed it but I ran as hard as I could" said Watson.

A couple of changes at the marathon this year, for the first time in 11 years the finish line has been moved to Tempe Town Lake.

"It's really just to accommodate all the runners we have to give us a little more space to enjoy the finish line concert and accommodate the crowd" said Miyamae.

Organizers say the medals were handed out to about 24,000 runners from first-timers to professionals like Jess Draskan Petersson from Denmark. "The vibe is just so different and everyone is having a good time" said Petersson.

Winners of the half and full marathons were awarded purses anywhere from $250 to $1,500.
