MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) - -

A chaotic scene broke out during a busy Saturday night at Wolfchase Mall January 18th.

Cell phone video sent to FOX13 shows patrons ducking and running during a smash and grab.

Police say thieves brazenly busted into Reed's Jewelers around 7:30pm Saturday night, smashing display cases with hammers and stealing several Rolex watches.

The suspects responsible for this are still at large, wanted for theft.

Police say five to six men in black hoodies made off with 65 Rolex watches, each valued at $11,000.

Earlier reports from witnesses indicated shots may have been fired during the theft, but police say no shots were fired, and that was actually the sound of hammers smashing glass cases.

The mall was put on lockdown and no one was injured, but many are left wondering how something like this could happen.

"I was shopping at the mall and all of a sudden, we saw people running, the store manager said, ‘Someone's shooting, someone's shooting,'" Witness Wes Eaton said.

Eaton was shopping at Wolfchase Mall Saturday when chaos broke out.

"I just saw everyone running as fast as they could to get out of the mall, then we all get in the back and a couple minutes later, step out front, see what's happening," Eaton said, "I heard about three gunshots and went back and hid again."

"It's an adrenaline rush for sure," Eaton added, "I was scared, a little bit curious."

Nearby a mall employee, Alyssa Isenhour, was locking customers inside her store and fearing for her life.

"They (the customers) were all on the phones with police, they were crying in the back," Isenhour said, "I thought I was going to die because it's like the store right next door to us, and we have expensive things in our store too, and I was like, ‘OK, they're coming over here and I'm going to hide in the bathroom no one knows about and I'm just going to lock myself in there.'"

Isenhour said she hid in the bathroom for what seemed like forever until police came.

"We just waited for a good bit and then the police came by and showed their badges to our store and told us to start letting people out," she said.

Witnesses said the mall was on lockdown for about 45 minutes as police, mall security and Shelby County Search & Rescue responded.

"Even while it was happening I was kind of in a daze, thinking it was a dream or something," Eaton said.

When asked if he feels safe shopping at Wolfchase, Eaton responded: "Not right now, but I feel about as safe as I do anywhere else; it could happen anywhere."

Though no one was hurt, the thieves responsible for causing mayhem at Wolfchase Mall are still out there, leaving many uneasy about their safety.

"We want more information, I think everyone deserves to know what happened, especially when they're in it, people were in there with their kids," Eaton said.

FOX13 visited Wolfchase Mall Sunday, January 19th, Reed's Jewelers was closed with no sign of when it would re-open.
