Big crowds gathered Saturday in Gilbert for those looking to see inside the newly constructed Mormon Temple. With a spire reaching 195 feet in the air it's hard to miss off the 202 San Tan Freeway.
The Gilbert Temple is the church's 142nd operating temple in the world and the fourth here in Arizona.
"It's beautiful" said Joshua Moffat.
The Moffat family of Goodyear one of the first to see the newly constructed building.
"It's great to have it so close and great opportunity for us to come as a family. Our children have never been in a temple before so it was great for them to see it for the first time" said Moffat.
The temple design pays homage to the Arizona landscape.
"Every temple is different, we have 142 temples throughout the world and they're designed so that they fit in with the local landscape if you will" said Jennifer Wheeler with the Church of Latter-Day Saints.
13,000 people are expected to tour the temple just today to get a look inside before it's closed off to the public.
"It's a unique opportunity because prior to the dedication of the temple it's the only time period people not in our faith are able to go in and we're very excited for people to come in and see the inside of the temple" said Wheeler.
