A woman is recovering after two men tried to break into her house and assault her!

Two criminals picked the wrong house to break into this morning in Northeast Philadelphia when the homeowner takes matters into her own hands.

For years the Davis family kept an aluminum baseball bat next to the front door especially for occasions like this.

Cheryl Davis says twp men dressed in water department uniforms knocked on their door on the 1000 block of Granite Street about 9:30 this morning. When she opened the door-her 54 year old mother got sucker punched.

"She's going to have to leave. It's too dangerous," Davis said. 'Before she could even say could say Can I help you? They punched her in the face."

But instead of letting the men inside, Davis fought back.

"Her first instinct was to grab the bat we keep. She kind of just blacked out and swung and she hit him right here and here and they stepped back and she was able to shut the door and lock it, "Davis said.

The men ran away. While dais called 911, the crooks didn't get anything other than a sore shoulder.

"Her father was a homicide detective and taught her well. I thought what she did was amazing everybody thinks so." Davis said. Davis spent the afternoon in the hospital. She's recovering at home tonight from a concussion. Police are searching for those suspects tonight.
