A man was found murdered in his apartment at the Devon Squares senior complex in Ferndale. Police found the victim stabbed to death Monday when they were responding to a request for a welfare check.

The victim and a suspect were seen on apartment surveillance video going into the victim's apartment Sunday. The suspect is then later seen leaving and coming back several more times throughout the day, stealing items during each trip police say. The victim's vehicle was also taken.

Police recovered the vehicle Wednesday on a side street in Detroit and determined the suspect was a homeless man who is known to frequent the area of Eight Mile Road and I-75 begging for money. That is where police found and arrested him.

"He's bold enough to have come back, made a couple trips, taken stolen items from him. ... We believe our suspect in this case is obviously pretty heartless and violent individual," says Lt. William Wilson of the Ferndale Police Department.

The apartment complex is located on Orchard Street, near Nine Mile and Hilton roads.
