Memphis Police Department
Director of Police Services, Toney Armstrong
For Immediate Release:
2013 CITYWIDE STATISTICAL DATA
MEMPHIS, January 11, 2014- The City of Memphis has been fortunate to realize a 4.54% reduction in Part 1 Crimes for the period of January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2013 and a 29.09% reduction during the same reporting period in 2006. This means that we have had 2,313 fewer victims of Part 1 Crimes in 2013 as opposed to 2012. This also means that we have had 19,939 fewer victims of Part 1 Crimes in 2013 as opposed to 2006.
Part 1 Crimes include:
In 2006, there were a total of 68,543 Part one crimes reported in the City of Memphis. In 2012 there were 50,917 Part one Crimes reported and in 2013 the numbers dropped by another 4.5% to 48,604 crimes.
We do not believe that these reductions could have been realized without the hard work of our officers utilizing crime fighting and efficiency promoted by the department. These methods include our Community Outreach Program (COP), Blue CRUSH, Precinct realignment and the movement of General Investigation Bureaus back to the precincts. All of these initiatives have worked hand-in-hand to accomplish the city's success in reducing crime.
