Amtrak schedules back on track after wintry week

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Nearly all Amtrak trains to and from Chicago will be back in service Sunday following a week of cancellations and delays due to historically severe winter weather, the transit agency announced Saturday.

Full schedules will operate on all Chicago Hub Services except for Lincoln Service Train 301 on the Chicago-St. Louis corridor, according to an Amtrak news release.

The agency will add more room for passengers on Texas Eagle Train 21/321/421 to make up for the cancellation of Train 301, the release said.

Chicago Hub service had been restored earlier this week for Downstate Illinois routes, as well as Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin, the agency said.

A nightmarish week for Amtrak included dozens of cancelled trains as snow, ice and subzero temperatures wreaked havoc on train tracks across the state, including one stalled train that stranded passengers for more than 13 hours overnight on Monday.
