Men Pose As Utility Workers To Rob Elderly Couple

Police have a warning for homeowners in South Philadelphia. Investigators say two men posing as utility workers were able to rob an elderly couple.

This happened around 3 P.M. Friday.

According to police, the men posing as utility workers knocked on the door of the corner home on the 2500 block of South 20th Street, saying they needed to check the water pressure of the pipes.

It was an elderly couple who apparently let them inside, thinking that they needed to do some work.

Both suspects were wearing dark colored uniforms and baseball hats with fake identifications.

The suspects fled off with money and jewelry from the couple's home. Neither of the victims were injured in the robbery.

Now, police are saying that it's always a good idea to ask for identity if somebody claiming to be utility worker comes to your home to make sure they are who they say they are.

A similar incident happened earlier in the week in Montgomery County. There is no word if that incident is connect to the robbery on South 20th Street.

Police also stress if you're ever in doubt and you're not sure if you believe these people are who they say they are, call 9-1-1. Do not let them inside your home.
