BARTLETT, Tenn. (FOX13) -

A 16-year-old Bartlett High School student was arrested Thursday afternoon for carrying a loaded .32 caliber semi-automatic pistol while on school campus, the Bartlett mayor's office said.

At the end of the school day Bartlett High administration and a Bartlett Police officer assigned to the school received word that a student had a gun in his possession.

The 11th grade student was located but when he was taken to an office the student tried to flee and resisted for several moments.

In a statement to the media the mayor's office said once the student was secured the police officer located a loaded .32 caliber semi-automatic pistol in the student's waistband.

The police officer said in the report the "pistol had one round in the chamber and one round in the magazine."

The police officer also found the student was in possession of 1.1 grams of marijuana.

The teen was charged with Carrying a Weapon on School Property, Unlawful Carrying or Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Resisting Arrest.

The student was taken to Shelby County Juvenile Court in Downtown Memphis.
