EAST MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

A vehicle in the middle lanes of I-240 westbound between Poplar Avenue and Walnut Grove caught fire late Thursday evening, causing a nearly one hour shutdown of the section of expressway in East Memphis.

The vehicle fire happened at 11:03 p.m., Memphis Fire watch commander told FOX13 News.

Flames and smoke billowed into the night sky, all caught on Tennessee Department of Transportation's Smartmap cameras.

One ambulance and one fire engine were dispatched. Firefighters were seen extinguishing the vehicle within minutes.

No one was taken to the hospital, a fire watch commander said.

Fifty minutes after first responders received the vehicle on fire call, one lane of I-240 was reopened to traffic.
