Students and parents near Raleigh Egypt High School on high alert after an attempted student abduction that happened early Thursday morning.

Memphis Police say the 15-year-old was on her way to school when she was approached by a black male who attempted to abduct her. She was able to fight off her attacker and escape with only minor injuries. She then ran to a school security officer for help, and was treated and released on the scene.

"It makes me feel not safe, somebody needs to do something about this, there are kids walking around here, I don't know," said Kelsey Hurt, a Raleigh Egypt student.

Hurt says she's thankful that Shelby County deputies patrol the school area but doesn't' always feel safe when she walks off school property. "Not really, we only have security in school, it would be nice to see other police out," said Hurt.

Kelsey's mom drops and picks her up from school each day for this very reason. "Because I don't want something like this to happen, I think all kids should be picked up, it's dangerous now, "said Glennis Hurt.

FOX 13 has reported on two other attempted student abductions over the last couple of months.  We haven't heard if they're connected. Last we heard, those cases remain unsolved.

Neighbor Mark Gregory has lived near Raleigh Egypt High School for years, and he's seen some incidents over those years and he too wonders if something else can be done to keep the students.

"It makes me feel uncomfortable, but I knew it was like this, suddenly it's laid back and then something comes out of the woodwork, "said Gregory. This morning's attacker has not been apprehended.

This is an ongoing investigation.
