TUPELO, Miss. (FOX13) -

Police officers in Tupelo are coming to the aid of a brother in blue injured in the line of duty.

The city council is allowing them to donate sick days to Officer Joseph Maher.

He was shot along with Sergeant Gale Stauffer, when they responded to a bank robbery last month. Sergeant Stauffer was killed.

Maher is now out of the hospital and recovering at home.

His fellow officers wanted to make sure he gets the time off he needs to recover properly so they asked the city council to allow them to donate their sick time to Maher.
