MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) – -

A Memphis actor has been picked for the national tour of one of Broadway's most enduring musicals.

Local actor Chuck Hodges will play the role of Padre in Man of La Mancha. He was picked from hundreds who auditioned, even though he thought he didn't have a "prayer to make the company."

MORE: Chuck Hodges Resume

Hodges' most recently starred in the local production of 'Beauty and the Beast' at DeSoto Family Theatre at the Landers Center. He played the role the Beast, who is in love with Belle.

Hodges said he had lots of hair, horns and was covered in prosthetics thanks to hair and makeup designer and show volunteer Buddy Hart.

Long before landing the star studded role he performed in local theaters around town. Amongst his theatrical works Hodges has played the role of a father of four children, husband for over twenty-six years and engineer for twenty-nine years with the same Memphis consulting company.

Hodges was awarded the Ostrander in 2012 for his work as Tevye in Theatre Memphis' Fiddler on the Roof.

Hodges biggest role to date is Padre in the play Man of La Mancha, which will run for the first three months of this year.

He will travel the country with the show but the closest they will come to Memphis will be in Cape Giradeau and St. Louis during the first week of February.
