FRAYSER, Tenn. (FOX13) -

Some folks in Frayser will soon look for another place to get their groceries. After 58 years the Kroger grocery store on Thomas Street is shutting its doors.

The closure comes from a loss in revenue and fewer shoppers, but Kroger says there are still options for loyal customers.

If you live in Frayser this Kroger grocery store is the only anchor left in the almost desolate Northgate Shopping Center.

"It's sad. I've been coming to this Kroger since 1969," said Kathy Mason, Kroger customer. "It's been a part of my life and now it's gone."

"I come here for everything and sometimes I'll pop in two-three times a day," added Gladys Williams, Kroger customer. "So I'm going to hate to see it go."

The store will officially shut its doors in less than six weeks. Patrons will now have to shop at a Superlo Foods, about two miles away, or a Kroger in the 2600 block of Frayser.

"This one is more convenient for me," Williams said. "I think with, you know, some of us in the neighborhood it's in, some of us can't afford to get down to the other store."

Kroger's corporate department said this store in particular has been losing money. Regardless, many people find this location convenient or have transportation issues, so closing this store will be tough."

Kroger released a statement. It says in part: "This Kroger location has been part of the Frayser community for over 58 years, and Kroger hates to have to leave the loyal customers that have shopped the store for all of these years."

The closing is a part of the company's $100 million investment in this community, where it's either closing, renovating, expanding or building new stores. Memphis City Councilman Lee Harris calls the closure a bump in the road.

"There are other grocery stores in Frayser," Councilman Harris said. "We're going to bring more retail to Frayser. I think the community is moving in the right direction because of the long-term residents who are there."

Even with other stores in the area, customers say there's nothing like shopping close to home.

"The other Kroger is way on the other side of Frayser, so it's like a long trip to get there," Mason said. "This one is right by my house. I come by here, I can run in and get stuff and run home. Now to go to the grocery
