MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) – -

Airlines continue to cancel and delay thousands of flights as freezing temperatures spread across the country.

These latest delays are being caused by the extreme cold which is preventing ground crews from spending more than a few minutes at a time outside. But no matter what the reason, air travelers who are stuck in airports are not happy.

One stranded traveler in Memphis had to drive from Tupelo, because her flight there was canceled. Ironically, she was on her way to a Pacific vacation.

"We were hoping to catch a flight from Memphis to LA - it's not working. All the flights are full and the one we were going to get to go on was already gone 'cause we did not have time (to get to Memphis). So now, nothing's available until maybe tomorrow; so we'll see."

"I had no choice but to spend the night on a cot with hundreds of other stranded people and it was a night mare."

While an airport may be great if you're catching a plane, disembarking a plane or just waiting for a plane, if there are no planes flying it is not a pleasant place to be.

Passenger Phil Morgan says, "We made it into Houston and stood in line for hours with hundreds of people. No one told us anything. I made the mistake of not getting a room because they told us they would take care of accommodations. Long story short, at 1:30 a.m. the lady says were out of hotel rooms in Houston."

Phil Morgan did get home to Memphis but no luggage.
