MEMPHIS, Tenn. (FOX13) -

As Old Man Winter's grip extended deep into the Mid-South, the thermometer in Memphis made it only to 17 degrees Monday, a new record low high temperature for Jan. 6.

Monday's high of 17 shattered a 130-year-old record.

So how cold was it in Memphis? It was 18 degrees colder than Anchorage, which had a balmy high of 35.

The bitter, freezing conditions, which the Mid-South hasn't felt in 18 years, are the result of an arctic blast that has blanketed and crippled much of the country.

Monday's overnight low will sink to just 7F by dawn Tuesday with a wind chills below zero.

Tuesday will warm up to 27. It will get progressively warmer as the week progresses. Highs in the 50s are expected by the weekend.
