WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (FOX13) -

Water is flowing once again in West Memphis, Ark., after the pumps thawed out due to the arctic cold blast invading the region.

Now it's low water pressure that's raising the pressure on families to be careful drinking the water. A boil water alert remains in effect until test results come back clean.

Early Monday in the midst of one of the coldest mornings in recent Mid-South history the city of West Memphis as dealing with that plus another problem.

No water.

"The temperatures is what cause the pumps to freeze," said John Rimmer, West Memphis Utility Commission.

All five distributing pumps froze leaving the tanks empty Monday. Zero water on this sub-freezing morning caught many West Memphians off guard.

Crews were out freezing themselves while working feverishly trying to fix the problem.

The West Memphis Utility Commission says there was a failsafe to the frozen pumps that should have alerted staff but that fail safe failed.

The fire department has no water either so neighboring communities standing by to help with trucks filled with water.

"In the event of anything they're going to come with is, the trucks we have here all carry water, our front line pumpers carry 1,000 gallons of water," says Jeff Jones of West Memphis Fire.

FOX13 has confirmed that the City of West Memphis, Arkansas do not have water.

According to the West Memphis utility company a distribution pump froze over night causing the tanks to run dry.

The health department has been contacted  and the entire city is under a boil water order.

West Memphis Schools say they do not have water as well, no word on closings.

The utility company is working to get the situation fixed and water restored.
