FRAYSER, Tenn. (FOX13) -

From the streets of Memphis, to Spain!

Decked out in stocking caps and winter coats, a group of students from Frayser High School is braving the cold weather, raising money for the trip of a lifetime.

Frayser High senior Bryshlan Patterson is one of the 11 students who was selected by teachers to be part of the Frayser High International Traveler's Club.

"We've been standing out on East Parkway and Sam Cooper Boulevard and different corners, collecting money and it's been going well," Paterson said. "We've had a lot of great donations but we're looking for more."

Alex Taillie, is a teacher in Frayser and is the club's leader. He says many of the students have never packed a suit case or left their own Zip Code.

"None of them have really been on a plane before, so this is their first experience," Taillie said.  "They have very little experiences outside of Frayser. Frayser has a very negative reputation that is not always accurate."

The group's first trip is scheduled to land in Spain this coming July, but before these students can take off, they'll each need to raise $4,000.

It's a lofty fundraising goal, but club members say the experience to walk the streets of Barcelona and see a new world outside of Memphis is priceless.

"I want to travel so I can experience other people's cultures and come back and tell my fellow classmates so they can do the same thing that I'm doing,"  says Terica Curre, a junior in the International Traveler's Club.

Patterson agrees with her fellow club member.

"I think it's important so it can broaden our horizons, see different cultures and be a part of something else," she says.

Taillie feels the overseas experience could touch many more people than just those who go on the trip.

"This trip, I'm hoping is good for the community as well as good for the students, to be able to experience another culture, get outside of Memphis and see there's a lot more out there for them," Taillie said.

The group is looking for sponsors to help fund their trip. Click here to lean more how you can help donate to help the students reach their goal.
