SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (FOX13) -

An 86-year-old woman was badly beaten and robbed this week.

Police found her in her North Mississippi home Tuesday morning. They also noticed her car was stolen. It's not something they thought could happen in their neighborhood.

Ingrid Mendez said, "It's beyond shocking.  It's disturbing.  I can't even wrap my head around it."

But people who live near the 5700 block of Garden Walk East in Southaven are extremely concerned after one of their neighbors, an 86 year-old woman, was found Tuesday morning with what police described as "bruising and other injuries to her face".

Her door was reportedly open when she was found by a neighbor.

A press release from the Southaven Police Department says the victim can't remember what happened. A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, says she was friends with the 86-year-old and believes she was brutally attacked for her car. "She would do anything for anybody.  So for someone to just come and do her like that and just leave her in that state and to leave her for dead over something so trivial as a car, she would have given them anything they wanted.  It doesn't make any sense to me."

Police have listed the woman's car, a 2003 Silver Impala, as stolen. The car has a Mississippi Handicap license plate of "E271D".

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and are asking anyone with information to call the DeSoto County Crimestoppers at 662-429-8477.

Meanwhile her friends in the neighborhood are asking for positive thoughts and prayers for the victim. "She's a wonderful woman.  She has the biggest heart and she sings in this little band and just enjoys people."

Police say the woman is expected to make a full recovery.

Police also say the woman's car had a sign on the passenger door that said "Delta Blues". Neighbors say that's the name of the band the woman sings in.
