Body found behind Johns Creek middle school

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -

Police in Johns Creek said a body was discovered behind a middle school on Wednesday.

Johns Creek police said that some people walking their dog found the body of a young man in a wooded area behind Taylor Middle School. The body face-down in a creek, authorities said.

The creek is about a quarter of a mile down a nature path from Taylor Road Middle School. In places, the terrain is rough and it wasn't easy for rescuers to get there.

"We had to hike in, take the trails in to the water" said Lt. Chris Byers of the Johns Creek Police Department. "The fire department's rescue unit went into the water and retrieved the body,"

Police say they don't know how the young man died or how long he had been in the water.

Neighbors said the area in which the body was found is a common walking path for students to cut through from the school to the neighborhoods.

Police say they have an idea of who the person is because he had a wallet in his pocket, but they want to confirm his identity before releasing his name. They estimated him being in his late teens and said he was carrying a backpack.
