Metro Atlanta area welcomes first babies of 2014

Posted: Updated:

The first baby born in metro Atlanta in 2014 arrived at 12:15 a.m. and he was a few days early. The second showed up at 1:04 a.m. --he was a few days late.

Both moms are excited their newborn sons arrived on New Year's Day.

While the rest of Atlanta was ringing in the New Year with fireworks and fun, 31-year-old Norma Alquisiras was at Northside Hospital delivering the first baby born in the metro area this year.

The little boy arrived at 12:15 a.m. and weighed 8.5 pounds. He was five days earlier than his mother and father were expected. His parents haven't come up with a name for him yet.

The metro area's second bundle of joy of the year entered the world at Fayetteville's Piedmont Hospital at 1:04 a.m. Little Ethan was 8 pounds, 4 ounces when he showed up a few days past his due date. His mother, Irani Ramos 27, had no idea delivering Piedmont Hospital's first baby would also come with a special gift from Delta Community Credit Union: a savings account with $500 already in the bank.

All of the first-born babies at Piedmont's five metro area hospitals will also receive $500 from Delta Community Credit Union.
