Police: 2-year-old boy showed signs of long-term abuse

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -

Disturbing details were revealed in court Tuesday in the death of a 2-year-old boy in Gwinnett County.

Elizabeth Calvo and her boyfriend, Adam Garber, face felony murder charges in the death of Elizabeth's son, Aiden Calvo.

The medical examiner said that Aiden's cause of death was "delayed effect head trauma." Dec. 16. A detective in the case, Sheila McMillan, testified on Tuesday that Aiden's short life was riddled with abuse.

The accused pair originally claimed they had no idea what happened to the boy, but that he had complained his eyes hurt the night before. The couple's stories changed from that night with both pointing the finger at the other, McMillan testified.

"He saw her hit Aiden with closed fists," McMillan said. "She said that Aiden always got bruises when he was in the care of Adam."

Doctors say whatever happened to little Aiden was not consistent with an accident. Calvo's older son shared a disturbing story of abuse, according to detective's testimony.

"He told a family member that Adam played some kind of game that they would flip a coin and whoever lost, whichever child lost, would get beat by Adam," said McMillan.

Calvo and Garber have been charged murder and child cruelty. Investigators are awaiting reports from New York regarding possible accusations of abuse by Calvo in that state.
