In a joint news conference Tuesday evening, Tupelo Police Chief Bart Aguirre and FBI Special Agent In Charge Daniel McMullen said the reward to locate and apprehend the suspects who shot and killed a police officer and injured another during a bank robbery has increased to $148,500.

The reward had been $100,000 Monday night but throughout the day Tuesday several Tupelo-area banks and businesses increased it to $48,500.

Police Chief Aguirre said the second officer who was shot is 27-year-old Joseph Maher, who has been with TPD since 2008. The police chief said Officer Maher's condition has improved.

A candlelight vigil to memorialize Sgt. Stauffer and to honor Officer Maher injured in Monday's tragic shooting will take place on Wednesday, Christmas evening around the Christmas tree in Fairpark. The vigil starts at 5 p.m.

Mayor Jason Shelton has also ordered a proclamation that all flags in the city of Tupelo be lowered to half-staff in memory of Sgt. Shelton and Officer Maher.

North Mississippi law enforcement said they are search for a one of the suspects who was captured in surveillance footage during the bank robbery. The suspect is 5-foot-9 or 6-foot-0 in height, with a light complexion, wearing khaki or cargo pants.

The prime suspect could be injured from the exchange of gunfire with the Tupelo officers. The suspect's vehicle could be charcoal or gray in color, a Dodge, Chrysler or Honda model.

Tuesday evening Tupelo Police released a surveillance image of a "person of interest" they would like to speak with. Image was recorded in a store near the crime scene minutes before the bank robbery Monday afternoon, city officials said.

The FBI and Lee County law enforcement will advertise photos and other information about the case on billboards throughout the region in an effort to reach those who may have information about the case.

Anyone with information on the suspects should contact Tupelo Police at 1-662-841-6491, the Lee County Sheriff's Crimestoppers tip line at 800-773-TIPS or the Lee County Sheriff's website.

BancorpSouth has also established two accounts to benefit the wide and children of Sgt. Stauffer and Officer Maher, bank officials said Tuesday evening. Contributions may be made at any local BancorpSouth branch. BancorpSouth has committed to match contributions up to $10,000 for each officer's account.

Additionally the Community Development Foundation has donated $10,000 to the officer's funds at BancorpSouth. CDF has donated $5,000 to each officer's fund.
