2 Ga. teachers earn national honor

WASHINGTON (AP) - Two Georgia elementary school teachers have been named recipients of the Presidential Award for Excellence in math and science teaching.

President Barack Obama announced the selection Friday of 102 math and science teachers receiving the honor. The Georgia winners are science teacher Christy Garvin of Powder Springs and math teacher Jeanne Rast of Hapeville.

The winners receive a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation for use at their discretion. They also are invited to the nation's capital for an awards ceremony.
