Escaped horse, Forrest Grump, returns home

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A horse escaped from an Old Town building on Thursday and while this horsecapade ended without any accidents, a few sore necks remain from those onlookers who did a double take.

Kathleen King caught video of the horse running down Wells Street on Thursday morning around 9 a.m. King wears a video camera on her bike helmet for safety and just in case she might see something interesting on her ride work.

"You know you try to be ready for anything when you're on your bike but that said, you don't expect to see a horse charging down the street," King said.

King was riding south on Wells Street and had just crossed North Avenue when she saw Forrest Gump.

"I heard some galloping noises from a horse and all of a sudden a horse came charging past me northbound on Wells," King said.

Forrest belongs to Debbie Hay, owner of Antique Coach and Carriage who said Forrest was being put into a trailer in Chicago when he broke away.

"When he snapped the snap he found himself loose in a surrounding that is not very familiar with and so he hightailed it like a horse would do," Hay said.

Run Forrest run.

King didn't know what to think except to wonder why the car was driving backwards after the horse and if there would be an accident.

"It happened so quickly I think it was just kind of shock, I just was speechless and just worried about what was about to unfold," King said.

Hay is grateful and relieved nothing did, "Oh, he was running at a good clip like a horse that wasn't familiar with where he was going next."
