New Alcohol Study Examines Effects On Immunity

RIVERSIDE, C.A. -

Tis the season to eat, drink and be merry, and most importantly, enjoy it. New research also finds that the drinks may be good for your health.

According to a recent study done at the University of California, Riverside, drinking alcohol could actually boost your immune system and make fighting infections easier for the body.

As always, researchers say moderation is the key to reaping the benefits of alcohol.

The study looked at 12 Rhesus Macaques who were given access to alcohol. Comparisons were made of how their bodies responded to vaccination prior to and after the study period. The monkeys that drank heavily showed lower responses to vaccines, but the animals that drank moderately showed higher responses to the vaccines, as compared to the control group.

This research could lead scientists to novel ways of preventing disease.
