Boy reunited with family after leaving apartment

Posted: Updated:

SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) - A 2-year-old boy who was found wandering unattended at a Surprise apartment complex was safely reunited with his family two hours after a search began for his parents.

Surprise Police Department spokesman John Bacon says the boy was barefoot and wearing only a T-shirt and a diaper Sunday morning when someone spotted him and called police. The child wasn't injured.

Officers knocked on doors at the apartment complex in hopes of finding the parents.

Two hours after authorities were called, the child's parents came forward and said the boy had slipped out of their apartment while they were sleeping.

Bacon says it's not yet known whether the parents will face charges.
