NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) - A man leaving the Mall at Short Hills in northern New Jersey with his wife Sunday night was shot in the head in the parking lot and died at the hospital.

Two men confronted Dustin Friedland, 30, of Hoboken and his wife while they were returning to their vehicle on the second floor of a parking deck near the Nordstroms at about 9 p.m.

Friedland opened the door for his wife and as he went to the driver's side was approached by the men and shot before he entered the vehicle, said Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray.

The men took off in the couple's silver 2012 Range Rover.  The only description released by police was that the men were believed to be black.

Friedland died at Morristown Medical Center at 11:45 p.m. His wife was not harmed.

The vehicle was found Monday morning in the yard of an abandoned house in Newark. The back window was smashed.

Police sources told Fox 5's Lisa Evers that the area the vehicle was found was not a random location.  Sources say the Renner Ave. location is a drop-spot for stolen vehicles and is used by a carjacking ring.

Friedland was a patent attorney in Neptune.  His wife is also a lawyer.

Anyone with information about the deadly carjacking is encouraged to contact the Essex County Prosecutor's Office at 877-847-7432.  There is a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the carjackers.

The upscale mall, about 25 miles from New York City, was open for shopping on Monday.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is holding its monthly board meeting, two days after it heard from a panel on what it needs to do to improve its accountability and efficiency and restore public trust.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey could rescind a $1-a-year lease for a park-and-ride lot near the Lincoln Tunnel. The agency's chief of real estate and development told a committee Wednesday that it should change a deal made in 2012. Published reports have alleged that former Port Authority chairman David Samson voted to approve the lease even though his law firm did business with New Jersey Transit, which operates the park-and-ride lot.
