Thieves target Griffin H.S. quarterback in burglary

GRIFFIN, Ga. -

It has been a weekend of accomplishment and celebration for Jaquez Parks and his family. And it was until he got home.

The 18-year-old quarterback for the Griffin Bears won the state championship. But it was while he was on the field that someone took advantage of his absence by breaking into his home.

Parks tells FOX 5 News that his most shining moment was tarnished by the crooks. He says the burglars forced their way into the home by taking an ax to the door.

Once inside the burglars ransacked Parks' home taking an iPad, TV, game system, money clothes and even the Christmas presents under the tree.

Parks celebration turned to concern for his parents.

"They work very hard for what they provide me with; for someone to come and take it. They have no heart at all," says Parks

"It just hurts. You work hard for your child to bless them and it's taken away," says Cassandra Parks.

Police dusted for fingerprints and are pursuing some leads. But Parks says there is one thing that no one can take away from him.

"It brought me down, but nobody can take away my pride; how I feel about the state championship. I'm still going to celebrate. They can take away gifts, everything valuable. They have but they can't take away what's inside me," says Parks.

The Parks family is asking the thieves to do the right thing and return their belongings.

The football team's booster club is trying to help the family. The Griffin High School Touchdown Club has set up a fund.
