A shoplifter at an Albany area mall was arrested after pepper spraying some mall cops who tried to apprehend her. A nearby shopper was able to capture the incident on tape.
Fox's Trishna Begam has the story.
After the painful screams that are heard a woman shouts out for help for someone to call 911
This video was shot inside cross gates mall right outside of the Marcy's department store by Dylan Cervara
Cervara says: "I heard a commotion out front; I saw a guy and a girl trying to wrestle this girl to the ground."
As Dylan was coming out of the Payless store in the mall when he saw 2 loss prevention officers trying to detain 17 year old Rayonna Ward.
Cervara says: "The lady who was being taken into custody whipped out pepper spray and sprayed the guy in the face."
Dylan started rolling on the commotion right away.
Cervara says: "When it's documented it can't be denied if it's on video or photo anything it happened."
The video shows ward struggling to get away as the officers try to pin her down. One lady asks shoppers to call 911, saying that she's just been pepper sprayed.
Police believe ward was shoplifting from Marcy's.
"They managed with assistance from an off duty law enforcement officer to get her hand cuffed and detained on the scene when we arrived."
At one point even Dylan stopped recording and stepped into help
Cervara says: "I relieved the guy who was holding down her feet he got pepper sprayed in the face wanted to make sure she didn't get away and hurt anyone else."
Ward ended up spraying 2 loss prevention officers and one shopper who was nearby. But she did not get away after an off duty officer stepped in to arrest her.
