A sinkhole opened up on North Randolph Street. Now people in the neighborhood want to know how it happened and when will the problem be fixed. A big effort is now underway to make this street safe again.

Kate Somerville saw the hole at about 11:00 a.m. when part of a pickup truck was stuck inside a giant sinkhole. She recorded this cell phone video.

"I was looking out my window guy was in a hurry trying to back up I realized he was sinking," Somerville said. "The wheels got caught on the edge he had to get out slowly San a little further until it was up to the middle of the truck."

The driver according to neighbors is a construction worker doing some work nearby. Resident Larisa Derchko grateful she wasn't hurt. The sinkhole opened up right in front of her home.

According to the city, the cause could be a leak in the service line running to her property. She says her water stopped working last week. She says she called the Water Department.

The city confirms a worker came there over the weekend and work was scheduled to begin tomorrow.

Residents are frustrated. They point to other patched up sinkholes on this same street

A spokesperson for the Water Department said construction will resume early Friday morning.
