Only FOX 29 was there as investigators from the State Attorney General's Organized Crime Section swooped down on more than a dozen locations Wednesday morning in a wide sweeping probe into the distribution of crystal methamphetamine in our area.
"It's unbelievable, and they're totally hidden down here," one neighbor said.
Neighbors who wanted to remain anonymous were surprised when agents rolled onto River Road in Roxborough armed with search warrants from a long running drug investigation into the lucrative meth trade that reaches from here to Montgomery and Chester counties and on into Delaware. Neighbors were glad to see the crackdown.
"Get the drug elements out of the neighborhood. This is a nice street," the longtime resident said.
Law enforcement sources tell FOX 29 investigators believe the crystal meth in this case is not homegrown, but coming from as far away as Mexico.
Undercover Investigators spent several hours at this location, searching the home and a car parked in the driveway. Sources say they did recover crystal meth stashed in the car's trunk inside a bucket of spackle. A Philadelphia Police k-9 was also brought in to try and uncover evidence here.
"Ridiculous, in Roxborough, it shuts down at eight o'clock at night," she added
Investigators left with several boxes of evidence. This neighbor says no one here wants drugs being peddled from their community. Some say they long suspected drug activity on their block so they welcomed the police presence in this quiet riverfront neighborhood.
"I wish they would come by every day, yeah I mean I'll make them a cup of coffee," she said.
Sources say evidence recovered in today's raids will be submitted to a state grand jury now investigating this distribution ring.
Sources also say undercover surveillance and wire taps helped lead to today's raid.
Several cars were also seized during these searches. Charges are not expected until early in the New Year.
