Police End Investigation Into Missing Toys From Donation Box

Posted: Updated:
FAIRLESS HILLS, Pa. -

FOX 29 has an update on the Toys for Tots mystery.

On Tuesday, the store "Wings to Go" reported to the media and to police that someone came into their store and walked away with the contents from the Toys for Tots donation box.

They released surveillance video, and Police were looking to talk to the woman in the video to find out why she took the toys.

The outcome of the search is the best possible news: Toys for Tots is now reporting that the woman IS a volunteer with the organization and was making the rounds collecting toys.

So, it's a happy ending to what started out as a real concern for one local store and the children they wanted to help. It's case closed for police. Here is our original report:

A surveillance camera rolled at a local restaurant as a woman is seen taking toys meant for needy kids from a donation box and walking away.

Workers at the Bucks County restaurant where the toys were swiped are just worried about the children the toys were intended for.

Bristol Township Police stopped by Wings to Go Tuesday night to investigate a surveillance video. It clearly shows a woman walking into the restaurant removing toys from the Toys for Tots donation bin and walking out.

General Manager Nicole Dean says the woman in the video is not a Toys for Tots staff member and that the alleged theft happened around 5 p.m. Monday. Dean says at the time staff members were busy taking care of orders and a customer seated right next to the toys didn't notice a thing.

"I didn't see it until I reviewed the tape this morning I looked in there (the box) and said where all the toys are? Where are they," Dean said.

"I just think it's terrible...a terrible thing for someone to do that," Elva Guthrie of Falls Township said.

Wings to Go supports several causes. The manager says they would help a family in need no problem, but within minutes of the disheartening story airing on the news comes a great show of generosity. Boxes of toys dropped off by people like, local business owner James McCoy of Superior Motor Service.

"I hope it makes a few kids smile to have some Christmas presents under the tree this year," McCoy said.

As the night went on, the donation box continued to fill up. Dean says regardless of what comes out of a police investigation, she hopes this story sends a positive message about this Bucks County Community rallying behind those in need.

If you have any information about the woman in the video, please call Bristol Township Police.
