LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A north suburban woman whose body was found Tuesday after she was reported missing died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, an autopsy has found.

The body, found near Libertyville late Tuesday, was that of Anne Stroll, 64, who had last been seen about 1 p.m. Monday by a neighbor who saw her get onto her bike in the driveway of her home on the 1700 block of Arrowwood Way.

Sheriff's police and Gurnee officers searched an area along north Milwaukee Avenue in unincorporated Libertyville on Tuesday, and found the body about 2 p.m. about half a mile from her home, officials said.

On Wednesday, the body was positively identified as that of Stroll, Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo said.

An autopsy found she died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, he said. Authorities have not yet ruled on the manner of her death pending toxicological results, which could take several weeks, Portillo said.

The sheriff's office said in a statement that its investigation also pointed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Her husband first alerted police when he returned home at 1:45 p.m. Monday after a doctor's appointment. He saw a note from his wife in the kitchen telling him that she had decided to go on a "short" bike ride before taking their golden retriever to a park.

When she didn't come back home to the gated community, he alerted police.

Stroll worked from home for a Bannockburn financial services firm, her husband said. The Omaha, Neb., native previously was an attorney for a healthcare system. The couple was married seven years ago.

Stroll has a son from a previous marriage living in Los Angeles.
