DETROIT (WJBK) -

"Keep up the good work" says John Hodge who was arrested in a Detroit Police sweep operation.  He's in handcuffs, but even he is grateful that someone is finally trying to clean up his neighborhood.

Hodge is one of 42 arrested during a massive sweep at the King Homes apartments near downtown Detroit.

The area is known for drug dealing and prostitution.

Police served 50 warrants to 35 addresses, making arrests for everything from aggravated assault to narcotics and counterfeiting.

"If you're on parole or probation we can come and knock on your door and make sure that you are abiding by the parameters set forth by a judge," says Detroit Police Captain Shawn Gargalino of the 7th precinct.

"They caught me coming from the grocery store they stopped me and ran my name and I got tickets from Highland Park," says Hodge.

"Where do I start? A day of celebration, a day of victory," says Detroit Police Chief James Craig.

He calls today's raid a party. The officers; his party planners.

Police also investigated nearby businesses, who police say could do more to stop crimes on their property.

"You can't allow drugs to be sold on your property and expect that you get a free pass," says Craig.

The second raid in just three weeks Tuesday was named operation 'Super Six' for fallen police officer John Anderson, who dedicated his life to cleaning up neighborhoods like this one .

Residents watched the raid in disbelief thanking police for cleaning up the streets, and police are promising the party is just getting started.
